One civics question no site can answer with a single fixed line: "Name your U.S. Representative." The answer depends on your exact congressional district, and — unlike your senators or governor, which depend only on your state — a single ZIP code can genuinely span more than one district.

Why a ZIP code alone is not always enough

ZIP codes are USPS mail-delivery routes, not political geography: roughly one in six ZIP code areas spans more than one congressional district, and the overlap skews toward cities — exactly where most applicants live. When that happens above, the tool shows every district your ZIP touches with its approximate share, rather than guessing a single answer. If your result shows more than one district, or you want to be certain before your interview, resolve it precisely by street address instead:

house.gov/representatives/find-your-representative — the House of Representatives' own finder — or the Census Bureau's official geocoder, the same government dataset this tool's district boundaries come from. Write the name down and say it the way the officer will recognize it — for example, "my representative is [name]."
